乳がんの早期発見・治療の重要性を訴えるために、世界共通で使われているシンボルマークです。
アメリカの乳がんで家族を亡くした遺族が「このような悲劇が繰り返されないように・・」と、ピンクのリボンに願いを込めて作ったのがはじまりで、乳がんの正しい知識と早期発見のための検診を促進するための活動を行っています。これが、ピンクリボン運動です。
乳がんは、日本人の女性では約１６人に１人がかかるといわれており、３０歳～６４歳の女性では死因の１位をなっています。３０代から急激に発症率が上がります。

ただし、超早期の乳がんであれば転移の心配がない為、高い確率でほぼ治癒するとも言われていますので、日頃より”自己検診”を行うことが大切です。乳がんは自分の力で早期発見できる数少ないがんです。
また、自覚症状のない微小ながんを発見するには「マンモグラフィ」や「超音波検査」などの画像検査を受けることが有効と言われています。一般的に「超音波検査」は３０～４０代の方に適しており、年齢が高い方などは「マンモグラフィ」の方が発見しやすいと言われています。
